Today I have guest author Tempeste O’Riley visiting today to talk about her current WIP and the disabled sub… So, without further ado, here….. Tempe!
Thank you so much for having me over today and allowing me to share a little about the HOP and how disability can affect things like being true to yourself. As many of you know I just put out a book last month (Desires’ Guardian) and many know that I have another coming soon (Temptations of Desire – Sept 2014), but how many know I’m almost done with a new story? Yep, I’ve been deep in my cave this month and writing up a storm.
Once month ago, today in fact, Author Grace R. Duncan challenged me to write a story with a sub who was physically disabled. Most know I have mobility issues myself and so have a serious soft spot for how others treat and view people who are differently mobile, so when she challenged, I happily picked up that gauntlet!
In Caged Sanctuary, you will meet Kade, a sub who, thanks to a gay bashing turned attempted murder, is wheelchair bound. So, how does a sub come to terms with never being able to kneel at his Dom’s feet again? And how will he find the Dom his heart and body needs when he can’t be a “real” sub any more.
Today I thought I’d share a little snippet with you from my story as it will be completed today! (Yes, it will be even if I have to stay up tonight, all night, to finish. They are demanding the ending to their HEA, NOW, lol.
Often, it’s not the limitations of our bodies but the limits others and we ourselves place upon us that cause the most pain. This is quite true for Kade… and in honor of the BDSM Blog Hop, I’m sharing how Kade sees his chances to be fulfilled as a sub. (Just so you know what’s happening, the two men just met at a dinner and Deacon’s asked Kade for a proper date. A simple yes/no question right? Well… not always.)
“Are you a Dom? I just thought, the way you talked… If not, I’m really sorry,” Kade rushed, making the last bit sound a little like one long word.
Chuckling a moment before straightening to his full height, Deacon looked Kade over slowly. “I am.”
“I can’t do the things a Dom would want any more.”
The longing in Kade’s voice broke Deacon’s heart, but he didn’t allow the ache to show. Stealing his voice, he stepped closer, deliberately towering over Kade more. “You’re going to tell me what I do and don’t want in a sub?”
“N-no, Sir. I didn’t mean it that way, I just, I can’t…”
He hated how broken Kade sounded, annoyed with himself for causing Kade’s panic. Deacon squatted beside Kade’s chair and placed one hand over Kade’s trembling ones. “Take a deep breath. Hold it. Now release. Again.” He waited until Kade’s breathing returned to normal, slowly running his thumb back and forth over Kade’s wrist. “Better. Now, if I didn’t believe we could work things out to where we could both be happy and satisfied, I would not have asked. Plus, I don’t waste my time or energy if I’m not interested in the sub.”
“Yes, Sir. I didn’t mean to insult you. It’s just, I can’t do the things I did when my legs worked. I can’t be a good sub any more,” Kade added, his voice so soft Deacon had to lean in to hear him.
