Alex has no idea her life is about to change beyond her wildest imaginings. She is the last in a long line of very special females born for a dangerous task, and she isn’t sure she is up to it. Zach, her vampire protector, is just as sure she is.
Demon attacks, angels and even the ultimate, divine intervention, shake Alex to her very core. Can she do this? Can Zach keep her safe? The alternative is unthinkable: demons once more ruling the earth.
Zach has to ensure that Alex puts a stop to this – and quickly!
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born in a small town in Scotland called Falkirk, we have recently returned to Scotland after living in Cyprus for a number of years and we are now in a town called East Kilbride.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
The honest truth is on Christmas day 2013 – one of my daughters got me a lovely photo frame with pics of my first five books and it hit me in the stomach – I’m a writer! Then the butterflies took over, then excitement and a host of other emotions – which of course had tears in my eyes. She got a big cuddle for the pressie and it sits in my living room where I see it every day to remind me.
What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say?
Gotta cheat here – just finished two – both being readied for imminent release!
The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire, Book 2 – We follow Peri’s story and her finding not one but TWO powerful beings as her mates. Love, hate, surprises – all in this second book of the series!
Sabrina’s Vampire, Book 3, Hunted – Kyle has to try and keep his mate, Sabrina, alive and out of the clutches of an insane psycho who is hunting her because of something he did! They go all the way to Italy to try and escape!
I love reading the warnings on the blurbs for many books. If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?
I’m a little bit nuts and a whole lot of crazy – approach with caution!
If you gave some of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?
I’ve done that a couple of times in character interviews and I LOVED doing them. The Vamps tend to be a little bit aloof or cheeky and rude while their mates try and reel them in.
Alex would say something like – “I can’t believe where I am today. Jeez, I used to work in IT in a Bank! Boring but paid the bills but here I am now living in America with a bloody great Vampire as my mate! A Vampire who is my true soul mate – I really can’t believe it at times but it’s been a hell of a ride to get here!”
What does your protagonist think about you? Would he or she want to hang out with you, the author?
Probably not – I’m always working – no time for play lol. Alex would probably get annoyed at me drooling over Zach – and that just wouldn’t end well.
Do your characters try to make like bunnies and create ever more convoluted plots for you? Or do you have to coax them out of your characters?
Yes! Sometimes they create havoc in my head – some more so than others. Vlad for instance is quite a nuisance at times! As for Irina! She is like an excited puppy and can cause quite a few problems and gets into some really bad situations which I have, of course, got to get her out of.
Have you based any of your characters on someone you know, or real events in your own life?
Ah ah, yes, only a baddie tho – and he got ripped to shreds – lovely!
Gotta love when you get to do that, huh?
Do you have a specific writing style?
David, who is the editor I’m working with for a load of my work calls my writing style ‘breathless’ which I have to agree with. I write fast and furious and that comes across, I hope. Some times I have to try and slow down a bit as there’s so many different things going on at once and although it makes sense to me (it’s in my head after all) it may not to the reader. I find it hard to do that but I try and David will point out if I haven’t done it lol.
How did you come up with the title?
I came up with the character of Alex first of all and wracked my brain for a name for her – when I did the title came right along – you’ll need to read the book to get that tho!
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Not really, other than escapism into a world full of strong sexy Vamps, Wolves and Witches with a human who finds love and carries out the one thing she was put on the earth to do.
Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?
Oh I‘ve got loads and loads of plans for books. This book is book 1 in the Defender’s Blood series, which has six at the moment and I know I’ve got to get around to seven but my head has been taking me in so many other directions! I’ve finished the third in the Sabrina’s Vampire series, finished second in Witch, Wolf and Vampire series and started book 3 and I have two more series in my head which I want to get stuck into. I just need to find the time – can I have a thirty hour day please?
How did you come up with the cover design?
TBH I didn’t have a clue what I wanted – no idea whatsoever! I found a guy to work with and told him about the book, rambling like an idiot no doubt, but he went away and came back with something that I loved. We’ve worked together on all my books so far. Sometimes I think I want something but he will kindly point me in a different direction and I realise he’s ususally right! His name’s Nik from bookbeaver.co.uk and he has been great to work with and I hope to work with him for all my new stuff too.
Where do you see yourself in five (5) years?
Sitting on a beach in the bahamas with champagne in my hand! No? Bugger! Oh well I‘ll still be writing, still looking after the family and cleaning the litter tray, even tho our son is supposed to do that! I hope to have loads more books out and have a little bit more ‘presence’ in the book world. If that doesn’t happen then that’s fine too, I’m happy to write what I love and hope some others like it too.
Then there’s the world domination thingy – I might take a crack at that!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Somewhere hot and civilised. Scotland is a beautiful place but the weather sucks big time but we wouldn’t go abroad to live again unless we won the lottery or something as we couldn’t afford to visit family as often as we would like.
Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?
Stephen King – come on – who wouldn’t want to meet him! Or J D Robb – would love to know where she got the character of Roarke from – maybe he’s real and I’d get to meet him! Jeez, shouldn’t even think that will start to drool soon.
Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?
I have some joint problems so can no longer hold a hardcover and a decent sized paperback can cause pain too – I love my ereader – it’s so light and portable. I used to take three or four books when we went on holiday and nowadays with the luggage weight restrictions it’s great to just pop it in my handbag with tons of books on it! Fab!
Are you a self published (Indie) Author or big (Traditional) published Author?
Indie, I never even thought of going any other way. Loads and loads of reasons – one of which is I don’t like being told what to do!
What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?
Def more books, lots and lots of books. I will still be writing of non-humans – they are just so much fun to write about. I may delve into other genres too – who knows what my brain will come up with, my body is just along for the ride!
How do you market/promote your books?
TBH I’m only just learning about that side of things – for instance this is my very first Blog Tour! I have a few pages on Facebook that have been kind enough to promote some of my work and I’m very grateful to them and I hope to try and get more adept at that side of things.
Have you ever suffered from a “writer’s block”? What did you do to get past the “block”?
Not so far, it’s the opposite with me up til now – my brain doesn’t stop coming up with things it wants me to type out and sometimes it’s quite a battle! If too many things start rampaging through it at any one time I just get up and go for a coffee or watch a bit of tv until it’s calmed down again. Naughty brain!
What was your favourite chapter (or part) to write and why?
Only one? Not sure if I can pick only one! I loved the scenes set in Scotland and the Scottish Wolf Pack – Duncan has a place in my heart big time! He is so big and gruff, tough, but at the same time he would literally die for those he cares about – plus writing in his accent was a blast! Being Scottish meant I could get it down pat – as if I was hearing it in a pub somewhere!
I also loved writing the love scenes! Not something I had actually planned on doing at the start – they just sorta appeared on the screen – was fun tho!
What do you do to unwind and relax?
Relax? What’s that – wait a minute I’ll look it up online – oh RELAX! Uhm, uhm, would you believe read – it’s the last thing I do each day – I love reading in bed all cosy and warm. I also love watching programmes I’ve recorded – I hate watching ‘live’ tv because of ads so I record everything. Am totally loving The Originals at the moment!
Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version?
Absoblinkinlutely – Reacher! How on earth did they cast Tom Cruise as Reacher!!!! Noooooo. I’ve read all the Reacher books and although I love Tom Cruise in other things he just was NOT Reacher. I tried really hard with the film but didn’t watch it all – just couldn’t.
What book are you currently reading and in what format (ebook/paperback/hardcover)?
Oh – I’m reading a HOT boxset at the moment! Ebook format and I’m thoroughly enjoying the stories – drool!
Are there any new Authors that have seized your interest and why?
I’ve just finished The Ice Diaries by Lexi Revellian and I really liked it – would love for her to make it into a series so I could get more of Morgan – the lead male! Totally yum! She tells the story so well and I swear I felt colder at parts as if I could feel the snow!
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Don’t wait, don’t put it off – sit down and start! Believe that you can do it and go for it all guns blazing!
What is the best advice that you have ever been given when it comes to writing?
Get an editor! I like many Indie’s balk at the expense and I didn’t at first – soon learned that it is a must – and now have two I work with to make my works better and that’s what a good editor does – makes your work the best it can be.
What are your pet peeves?
Bad manners and rudeness really get to me, my gran brought me up and always said ‘if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all’ or words to that effect. Some people are just so rude and nasty it’s quite unbelievable and I wonder if they really know the effect their words have on others!
Cats or dogs?
White wine or red?
Coffee or tea?
Chocolate – I know it’s technically not a food but hey I love it!
It so is too a food! (and a darn yummy one too)
Vanilla or chocolate ice cream?
What are 4 things you never leave home without?
phone, keys, lipstick and antibacterial hand stuff
Laptop or desktop for writing?
Laptop set on a desk lol
Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?
at said desk on laptop and any time – all day long
One of your favourite quotes –
Patience is a Virtue (not one I have)
List 3 of your all time favourite books?
The Stand, Midnight in Death, Ice Diaries
List 3 of your all time favourite movies?
Star Wars, The Bone Collector, Despicable Me
What is a movie or TV show that you watched recently and really enjoyed?
I’ve seen Despicable Me multiple times recently and each time I still laugh! Bottom!
She took a deep breath. “Okay I must admit parts of that do scare me a bit but Zach, the thought of you feeding off someone else upsets me! I don’t want you to do that – can we start off slowly? Maybe a couple of teeny feeds a day?”
He frowned. “Teeny? You mean small?”
“Yes, small, could we do that?” she implored – willing for him to agree.
Zach drew her closer and gave her a little kiss. “Yes my precious little one. Though you know what that will mean?”
She frowned. “No? What?” He had ‘that’ look in his eyes again and her heart leapt.
“Well, the best time for feeding for a couple – well let’s just say – it’s usually in bed – or the shower – or in fact on top of the cabinet in the bathroom! You get my meaning?” He smiled wickedly and ran his tongue along her neck.
Oh my! She was going to be a VERY happy woman. She ran her hand down the front of his chest, feeling the strong, very strong, muscles underneath his shirt.
“Why don’t we practice now? Just so I know you’re getting enough – what did you call it – oh yes – sustenance!” she all but whimpered.
