Interview: Carrie Ann Ryan, Paranormal Romance Author

Please give a warm welcome to Carrie Ann Ryan. Thank you so much for being with us here today on the blog, I am so excited.

I’m excited too! Thank you so much for having me!

Where were you born and where do you call home?

I was born on an Air Force base in Germany and right now home is in PA, though we will be moving soon – again.

What or who inspired you to write?  And how long have you been writing?

I’ve always been writing in some way or another, but it was after reading over 5,000 books and talking to Rebecca Royce, that I started writing romance in order to publish.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

After my first book was published and a reader emailed me asking for more because they loved it!

What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say?

A Taste for a Mate: A werewolf who will stop at nothing to protect his mate and the woman who fights to save them both.

I love reading the warnings on the blurbs for many books. If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?

For me as an author?
Warning: Contains sarcasm, werewolf voices in her head and 110% of crazy goodness. (That was lame LOL)

I don’t know – I laughed . . . Wait, does that make me lame too?
If you gave some of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?

Carrie Ann: So guys, why do you think people should read A Taste for a Mate?

Jasper: Because it shows the strength of the woman beside me and how no matter what happens, if you fight for fate, you’ll find your path.

Willow: Because you get to meet the Jamensons and see why I love them and how they take you into their Pack and hold you close.

What does your protagonist think about you? Would he or she want to hang out with you, the author?

Carrie Ann: I’m afraid to ask LOL.

Jasper: You may be crazy and talk to yourself when you’re plotting, but we wouldn’t be here without you.

Willow: Plus you taught me how to bake, so what more could I ask for?

Which character speaks the loudest, to you? Do any of them clamour to be heard over the others?

Adam, the hero of book 4 in the series, is actually shouting at me at the moment. It’s odd LOL.

Do your characters try to make like bunnies and create ever more convoluted plots for you? Or do you have to coax them out of your characters?

Hmm… it depends on the characters. Sometimes the plot comes to me and I tell the characters what to do. But sometimes the characters are so vocal, that the plot weaves itself in the outline from them.

Have you based any of your characters on someone you know, or real events in your own life?

Only once and it was for cannon fodder and a bet LOL.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I’m still learning, but I’m a plotter. I have outlines and spreadsheets galore LOL.

How did you come up with the title?

Willow is a baker and I wanted something to do with that. Plus, they’re werewolves and Jasper fights everything to keep his mate.

Do you have plans for a new book?   Is this book part of a series?

*rubs hands together* Oh I have plans LOL. I’m editing book 3 in the Redwood Pack series now, Trinity Bound. I have plans for all seven siblings, as well as another seven book series called Dante’s Circle. You can find out more on my website.

How did you come up with the cover design?

The lovely Leia Shaw and I talked about it. I wanted an embracing couple, a wolf and trees. And that’s what she came up with LOL.

Who designed the cover of your book?

Leia Shaw

Where do you see yourself in five (5) years?

Hopefully writing and enjoying what I’m doing. And becoming a mom. J

Good luck to you (especially on the mom part – there is nothing more rewarding IMHO) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’ve lived all over the world and never stayed in one place longer than 4 years. At this point I want to move where hubby and my families are and stay put LOL. So Colorado – here we come!

Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?

Everyone in my Rom critters group. We need to have a party! And no Tequilla.

Agreed! No Ta-Kill-Ya allowed!
Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?

I used to be a paperback girl as hardcovers were too heavy on my wrists. But now that I own so many books I am actually an ebook fan. The only thing I miss is bookmarks!

What can we expect from you in the future?  ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

Right now I have 18 books in the paranormal genre out, planned or in the writing stages. At some point, I may go contemporary or western, but the paranormal ideas keep coming to me!

Have you ever suffered from a "writer’s block"? What did you do to get past the "block"?

Yep. At that point I call or email Lia Davis and cry, yell, pout and go through an idea purge LOL. I love her.

What do you do to unwind and relax?

I read or cook LOL. I’m pretty boring. Though once a month, the girls and I go dancing. But since I live in a college town, the only dance place has 18-22-year-olds every where and makes the 25-year-old me feel old!

Have you ever read a book more than once?

*laughs* Oh yes. I own over 5,000 books and have proably read over 4,000 of them two or three times. Sometimes more.

What book are you currently reading and in what format (ebook/ paperback/ hardcover)?

I read one-two books a day. (I read annoying fast LOL) So at the moment I’m reading Artistic Pursuits by Andrew Grey.

Oh, I just read that (Review to come soon). Love him!
Do you have any advice for other writers?

Write, ask for help and find a crit partner.

Now for a little fun:

Do you write to music? If so – play list please.

Yes, but soooo many to say. I listen to country, folk, pop, rock, rap etc…

What are your pet peeves?

Being late.

Cats or dogs?

Fangs or fur?

Fur, but fangs on my werewolf!

Wine or liquor (or beer if you just have to)?

Liquor, then beer.

Coffee or tea?

Favourite food?

Anything Asian.

Vanilla or chocolate ice cream?

Vanilla. I only like chocolate in small doses.

An actor you have a crush on

Henry Cavill. *sigh*
