Booking Through Thursday ~ Hard to Light

All other thing being equal, would you rather read a book that’s hard/challenging/rewarding or light/enjoyable/easy?

That would honestly depend on my mood.  I love books that make me think and work but not to the level of dry, boring, or overly technical (like textbooks, ugh).  On the other hand, I love books that are just fun, too.  I don’t care for a lot of chick/romance books because it’s just too much light, fluff that seems like a shallow waste but I know others that that’s all they read and think I’m the crazy one.

I read a lot of YA books but there needs to be some meat in most cases.  I like paranormal, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and more so at least I have a lot of hard and light to work with.  It just depends on my mood whether I pick up a light or heavy read that day. (And whether I’ve promised a read/review.)

  1. I’m a mood reader, too. I even enjoy reading textbooks, now and then. “Chick lit” romance novels are just about the only form of reading I don’t enjoy — I agree it’s just too much fluff.

    1. Glad to see someone else agree with me… Growing up it seemed like that’s all my mom and paternal grandmother read, lol. Could just never get into it. 🙂

I like some mystery and light romance, but all the others you named I never read, they just aren’t my cup of tea.

    1. That’s the great thing about the great plethora of books and genres out there… we can all have our tea 🙂
I’ve gotten into some mystery – Mary Higgins Clark mostly…

I totally agree. I am with you on the chick lit too. It’s just not for me. If I am looking for something light I avoid it although I also have friends who love it.
